This book of 30 days of devotions is designed to be a quick read but with individual prayers/activities to do to enrich the experience. They all have the same basic formula: bible quote, thoughts on the quote, a story from the author, thoughts to pray/meditate/write about dealing with the quote, a related quote from a well known Christian writer/minister/etc., and a prayer. The only thing that isn't consistent is what version of the bible her quotes are in. Bible quotes are used frequently throughout each day's reading but sometimes she will use 3-4 different versions in the same day, everything from the New King James to The Message.

This book is on the Gilded Age and why life back then was horrible. It covers many areas of life like houses, work, crime, food, health,travel and leisure. You learn about the dangers of crossing a road, when the word smog was created, and why anything you ate or drank would kill you. It is amazing that anyone lived to die in WWI.

Ghosts The Complete Guide to the Supernatural:

First, given the author's name, how could they not write about ghost? This book does have some good information on ghosts, but is in no way the complete guide to them. The sections on: real haunted places, ghosts in films, books with ghost and other ghosts in the arts were a good starting point to studying the topics. The parts on religions/beliefs on ghosts/spirits and holidays about them are all too short/general to be useful and there are other books that deal with the subject better. Also he is clearly in the pocket of Big Achient Egyptian Polytheism with his needless attack of Akhenaten. So over all an OK starting place for the study of historic and fictional ghosts.

They also have a lot of information about Ray Bradbury's life and how/why he wrote different stories in them. The essays are from a number of years and were published in other books and magazines. The advice is practical and doable, but you will want to read it five years before yo want to be a writer.

A small, but prestigious college receives some unusual letters, for each person that the school turned down they got a letter written in red, bloodlike ink only saying "Still Coming". They are all posted from the right cities, and there are slight differences in handwriting but besides that they are identical. From that time on things get odd in the small town nearby; ghosts, lights messing up, fires, angry mobs, etc.
