Best. Brains. Ever.: History's 64 Greatest Geeks, and How they Shaped our World:

Best. Brains. Ever.: History's 64 Greatest Geeks, and How they Shaped our World by: Chas Newkey-Burden
Non-fiction: Biography, History, 144 pages

Each entry has a retro gaming picture of the person, what they are known for, and a short biography of them.  Besides highlighting some people that one might not otherwise know about, each entry has info on the level of a middle school report.  This can result in a fact or two that one didn't already know about people that they knew about, or getting the half truths that one learned in school and then found was false later. (Like how it had both Tesla and Edison in a book and suggested that Edison actually invented all that he got credited for, and didn't get into what a jerk Edison was to Tesla.  Or how it did the tired story that Galileo was persecuted by the Church for doing science, AFTER talking about Copernicus, the person who had Galileo's idea before him, and was a member of the clergy.)

Raise the Stakes: Cantankerous Cadavers - Book 1

Raise the Stakes by: Bones Monroe
Fiction: Science Fiction, mystery, e-book

I feel like the title, cover art and story do not go together on this book.  Like the publisher thought that this was going to be a fun humorous story about some zombies and instead it was about a bigoted man and his daughter that get enmeshed in this deadly battle between the living and the undead. Even the info on the story, isn't quite what happened in it.   Also the major twists in the story could be seen far in advance.

Complete Collection Of H. P. Lovecraft:

Complete Collection Of H. P. Lovecraft by: H. P. Lovecraft
Fiction: Fantasy, short story, E-book

I read this knowing that Lovecraft was super racist and freaked out by everything.  So his insults of all the people of the world (besides the British and Germans) was expected. His deep fear of people speaking Dutch was surprising. His horror at other everyday things is sometimes written in a way where one can see how his core myths are still used today. While the other stories that were more predictable and/or filled with racism show why most people don't read his source material.

Also I wish this book was arranged by when it was written, and not mostly in alphabetical order, with the few moved to connect with the related stories, just so it was easier to see the evolution of his myths.

And for friends also following me on Goodreads, I did get this book done before midnight on Dec 31st, and it did think it had 0 pages, even though it notes it has 150 e-books in the one book. (although it is really that many short stories.)
