Manga and Philosophy edited by: Josef Steiff and Adam Barkman
Non-fiction: Manga, Pop Culture, NYR 332 pages
Book Count: 36
Like other books in this series this book is a collection of essays on subjects relating to the title. Some essays cover the world(s) made by a single manga artist. Some cover types of manga. Some deal with themes in manga and how they relate to the culture and world that created them. And some deal with other things that were in some ways connected with manga. You start this book by reading a manga found in what would be the back of the book in American books, then you flip the book back over to read the essays.

A Book in Review: What you wear can change your life
What you wear can change your life By: Trinny Woodall & Susannah Constantine
Non-fiction: fashion, 263 pages
Book Count: 31
This book was written by the host of the British version of "What Not to Wear". As such it has a lot of advice much like the TV show, but it is in an easy to find format and also includes things that they don't get into on the show like what all the differnt types of makeup do, how to pose for pictures to camoflage flaws, and how to store your things to make it easier to put together outfits. There were some issues with the fact that this was written in England, but most of the products named were brands that are also here and there was enought info given about many of them that you could find an equlivent product.

More Undead Manatees
I was taking to my sister today, the one who's fault it is that all the manatee (Also known as sea cows) searches bring up this blog. (Why are you people looking up manatee mating rituals any way?) Any way, a few of her friends are working on making a screenplay/movie which will include zombie i.e. undeadish manatees. Which leads to the question, what would a zombie manatee want? Human ones always want brains, but as herbivores would a manatee also want that? Would they want seaweeds? As zombies are slower then normal people would a zombie manatee even move?

Update:
In case you didn't guess it, yesterday's "Odd Laws on Undead Manatee Mating Rituals" was compleatly made up. It was only for April Fool's Day. We hope you enjoyed the joke.

Christmas Movie Quotes:
We elves try to stick to the four main food groups: candy, candy canes, candy corns and syrup.
-elf
SANTA! OH MY GOD! SANTA'S COMING! I KNOW HIM! I KNOW HIM! -elf
I passed through the seven levels of the Candy Cane forest, through the sea of swirly twirly gum drops, and then I walked through the Lincoln Tunnel.
-elf
Can I refill your eggnog for you? Get you something to eat? Drive you out to the middle of nowhere and leave you for dead?
-Christmas vacation
You'll shoot your eye out, kid. - A Christmas story
Every kid, at the back of his mind, vaguely but insistently, believes that he will be struck blind before his 21st birthday. And then they'll be sorry. - A Christmas story
Christmas was on its way. Lovely, glorious, beautiful Christmas, upon which the entire kid year revolved. - A Christmas story

Movie Quotes: The Princess Bride
- “When I was your age, television was called, "books."”
- “Probably some local fisherman out for a pleasure cruise, at night, through eel-infested waters.”
- “Inconceivable!”
- “You keep using that word. I do not think it means, what you think it means.”
- “You fell victim to one of the classic blunders. The most famous is: "Never get involved in a land war in Asia." But, only slightly less well known is this: "Never go in against a Sicilian, when death is on the line!"”
- “It's not that bad . . . well, I'm not saying I'd like to build a summer home here, but the trees are actually quite lovely.”
- “Have fun storming the castle!”
- “My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.”
“As you wish.”

50 Books Down, 50 To Go!
For those of you keeping track of my attempt to read 100 books this year, you my have noticed that my last blog was book 50. As it is June, the 6th month of the year, that means I’m still on track to reach my goal! Yahhhhhh!!!!!!!!! Also, as I 1st said to myself that I was now “half-way there” and was watching VH1 reasontly, I have Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ On A Prayer” stuck in my head. Not that I mind, it is an amazing song, from an album so great even I bought it. (Giving up money that otherwise could be spent on books.) But, I thought I would share with you, so you too could have the song in your head.

They’re Back!!!
The Daily Show and the Colbert Report are back!!! Of course the strike is still on, so there is the whole: will it be as good, will this hurt the strike issues, but as someone that is tired of getting there news from “reliable” “unbiased” sources I am excited. That and as phony news/ interviews it doesn’t need to be written like say a sit-com does. Which brings up a question that we would like to know your thoughts on. With the lack of new episodes of shows that started in the fall and limited ones on the shows that start in January, do you think shows that were popular will lose ratings after the strike due to people giving up on them and getting use to nothing being on TV? Let us know what you think.

Happy Hanukkah!!!
I wanted to spend today’s blog talking about all the wonderful heartwarming Hanukkah specials and movies that will be airing now; however, the only Hanukkah “specials” on are a few children’s cartoons TV shows where one or two of the kids in the cartoon are Jewish and so they made an episode on Hanukkah which may be not much more then an explanation of the holiday in a kid friendly format for non-Jews. And I know of only two movies on Hanukkah and both are comedies geared for adult only audiences. One “The Hebrew Hammer” aired yesterday and I can find no more listings for it and “Eight Crazy Nights” will be on Saturday on some channel, which as the search for it only gave me the number on my TV, I don’t know what channel it’s on. Which made me ask the question, “Why are there not more Hanukkah specials and movies?” Sure it hasn’t been as commercialized as Christmas and modern Jewish holidays are more about family togetherness then “Everybody it’s a holiday be joyfulled NOW!!” But, the almost complete lack of holiday media is odd. Kwanzaa has almost as many things for it and it is 2 ½ thousands years younger of a holiday (give or take a couple decades) and has all of the controversities around it like: its founder, anti-Christian aspects of its founding, and how it lumps all African peoples together as if they were unified into one culture. So if anyone knows why this shortage of movies and TV specials or for that mater why “The Dradiel Song” and “The Hanukkah Song (Parts 1 and 2)” are the only Hanukkah carols anyone knows or why Adam Sandler alone has doubled the number of Hanukkah things please let us know are we are really interested!

Count Down to Thanksgiving
Starting today on food network every day they will have Thanksgiving programming starting at 8 p.m. From what I’ve seen so far some times it is an hour of programming and sometimes it is two hours. Also they are not only airing shows about only Thanksgiving but also shows dealing with foods common to Thanksgiving, for example a Good Eats on stuffing.
