Maren was found inside of a conch shell during the middle of an October storm, on a mountain in Pennsylvania. Clare was brought by a stork to Auntie Verity. And O'Neill was found beneath an apple tree by a priest that was mourning the death of his brother. O'Neill had a birthmark exactly the same as the priest's brother. O'Neill, as a boy, was raised by the traveling merchant Ezra Scarff, who is Auntie's sweetheart, and visits as often as he can. This of course sounds amazing; however, Auntie is part fairy and so can't lie. Plus around her 16th birthday Maren starts turning into a mermaid. And so she needs to get to the ocean to be with her merfolk family and take her place as a mermaid princess. Auntie can not leave the mountain, due to a curse placed on her, and so they must wait until Scarff and O'Neill can make it back to the mountain. Scarff gets very sick and has to be nursed back to health by gypsies before he is well enough to travel to the mountain and so Maren is a full mermaid before they can start on their way. Also even after he gets there he is too ill to make to journey quickly and so Clare and O'Neill must transport Maren to the ocean.

Knowing that something most unrighteous is up the ask Missy (who is now married to reformed bad guy Chuck) for help in having an out of body experience to find out what is happening. They find out Death has been kidnapped, get kicked out of Hell and then call Rufus for help. They think that Satan has attacked Death and is trying to break into Heaven, so they get the gang back together. Ms. of Arc is of course happy to fight the devil (they paraphrase an actual quote from her), Billy the Kid was visiting Socrates (as they are best buds now), and Lincoln agrees to help. Missy, Ted's dad and the robots stay home to watch baby Bill and Ted, while the rest go to Hell. Once their the are once again attacked by all of their greatest fears (well Lincoln doesn't get the theater part yet,) and find that it is Napoleon that took over Hell and is trying to get Heaven as well.

Rupert Wong is a cannibal chef. By that I mean that he is a human that cooks other humans. He doesn't eat them, he is a chef for a dynasty of ghouls in Kuala Lumpur. He also works as an administrator for the Ten Chinese Hells. His girlfriend is dead, having been murdered before he met her, and her unborn monster baby lives with them too. Also he lives in a world where all the mythologies of the world are real and work much like gangs where they have turf and alliances/wars with the other mythologies. Even more modern fictional pantheons and "worshiped" things are real.
So Rupert had a full life of hacking up and cooking humans for ghouls, talking to kwee kia that want to unionize, and filing paperwork on gods, demi-gods, and other mythical beings. Then a dragon shows up asking him to find proof that his daughter was killed by a fury. From there his life gets crazy fast.

First, I am glad that I didn't just read one of the books that make up this story, as it really just one story, where one book stops the next starts up, no reminder of what happened last, no new mystery with the same people, it's just all one story that's longer then you average novel. (I think it said it was about 450 pages worth of words, so why it was 3 books is beyond me.)
But, the story itself was interesting. A couple, who do a house flipping blog get a house in a small town that has been abandoned since the owners died about 20 years ago in what was ruled a boating accident. It turns out that the were murdered and the house is haunted. So of course they need to solve the mystery.

1. This book does NOT have a nihil obstat or an imprimatur. For readers that don't know what that is, it is an official declaration that a book does not have any doctrinal error. So this book did NOT get a bishop to sign off on: the theology not being wrong, much less any note on the science, history, politics, etc. I would not be surprised if this was because they tried to get one, and were told no.
2. I got this book from my mom, for those that know me IRL you know how bad that can be. I only read this for what new crazy "won't anyone think of the children," hysteria and over sentimentality, that it would contain. (For a thing I am working on, not the torture of this type of junk.)
3. This book is published by "America Needs Fatima" a part of "The American Society for the Defense of Tradition, Family and Property." Now I have vaguely heard of ANF before, and found everyone connected to it to be the types from point 2, and the name of the main group just double downs on it. And after reading the book I did a quick google search of the group and found that all the links in the top pages that were not from the group were either questions on if the group was a rad-trad/fascists/other cult or people stating that they were a cult and/or have been denounced by different bishops as a cult. Also their only Better Business Bureau review was negative.
4. This book is a horrible book! It gets the basic facts on what happened at Fatima right, but then goes on a rant that shows that they have no knowledge of history, science, what communism is, etc.
Not Fun Not Facts from the book: We would have won 'Nam if it weren't for politicians and being forced to sign a peace agreement, evolution is a communist plot, communist are both atheists and neo pagans at the same time, all evils of the modern world are both new since 1917 and communism, and other things that are just too bad to repeat as it goes beyond the point of crazy stupid to "not touching that with a 10 foot pole."

This book is mostly a series of interviews that the author had with Sister Lucia, the last living member of the children that saw the vision of Our Lady of Fatima. It also has a forward by then Pop Benedict XVI and some other documents that relate to Fatima.
It covers all the major crazy ideas surrounding Fatima and the secrets connected to it, with the answers from the last living visionary, i.e. the one person who should know the truth. So in no particular order: there is no additional secret, there is no additional letter she wrote to the Popes, she didn't tell John Paul I that he would be the Pope, or that he would be killed as the Pope (though she might have commented that he would make a good pope as a personal observation, not some message from Heaven,) and the 1984 consecration of the world counted, even thought it did not say Russia, but only hinted at it. (The reason being that the Pope did not want to upset the Patriarch of Russia, also related, the error of Russia was about the militant atheism of communism and not a slight on the Orthodox Church.) This book is mostly a series of interviews that the author had with Sister Lucia, the last living member of the children that saw the vision of Our Lady of Fatima. It also has a forward by then Pop Benedict XVI and some other documents that relate to Fatima.
It covers all the major crazy ideas surrounding Fatima and the secrets connected to it, with the answers from the last living visionary, i.e. the one person who should know the truth. So in no particular order: there is no additional secret, there is no additional letter she wrote to the Popes, she didn't tell John Paul I that he would be the Pope, or that he would be killed as the Pope (though she might have commented that he would make a good pope as a personal observation, not some message from Heaven,) and the 1984 consecration of the world counted, even thought it did not say Russia, but only hinted at it. (The reason being that the Pope did not want to upset the Patriarch of Russia, also related, the error of Russia was about the militant atheism of communism and not a slight on the Orthodox Church.) This is book one in a series of books on the adventures of Bill, a vampire. This book deals with how Bill became a vampire, and his early vampire activities. Bill was a stereotypical nerd/geek. He is average looking, lucks out with women, lives with a couple of roommates who are much like him, works a tech job mostly from his apartment, is a D and D regular, etc. A hot women invites him to a party when they meet on public transportation, and although he can't believe that that really happened, he goes. It turns out she is a vampire and the coven that she belongs to has a habit of having parties in with all the male or female vamps invite some type of "losers" to the party, drink their blood, turn them and then dust them. (The time before the men all invited overweight women to the party. Also this coven only contains people that would be described as very physically attractive.) 20 Answers Challenge: Part 1
So right before Lent, Catholic Answers had a 20 Answers Challenge, which was to read the 20 booklets that they made called 20 Answers- (blank), each of which has 20 questions and answers on some subject related to the faith, before the end of Easter (i.e. 50 days after Easter Sunday/Pentecost.) And if you bought the complete set of books you would get the books for half off and $10 of the sale would go to help St. Paul Street Evangelization. So on Fat Tuesday I ordered the books to do the challenge/ get them on sale at the last possible minute. As Lent was spent reading about vampires, because why wouldn't you, I started this challenge late. Also as apparently Lent and Easter is a busy time when you work at a church, I started even later then that. So I have about 20 days to read 20 books, luckily they are shorter books, so it should be possible. Anyway as theses books/booklets are shorter and are part of a non-fiction series, I will be putting the "reviews" (Notes to myself that I have read them for the most part and proof to friends that I did do the challenge,) in a grouping of a few books at a time.
Also I will be counting them each as books, just so my book count looks great at the end of the year.
And as these books were written by a group of people (with one author for each book) and the writers are also on the show from Catholic Answers that I see on youtube, it is interesting to see the way that the author's speaking style translates into their writing style, as there are a number of times that I can "hear" the writing in the author's voice and wonder how one of the other authors would answer one of the questions differently.

It noted that many Christian denominations have different beliefs on what, if anything baptism does, but argues that because they don't have baptisms it's not a denomination.

He grew up in the Hushlands (the USA) as a foster kid who constantly broke things in freak accidents. When he gets a bag of sand as his inheritance on his 13th birthday, it get taken, and he meets his grandfather, Leavenworth. From then he learns about life in the Free Kingdoms, being an oculator, the evil librarians, and his family. Also there is a great big adventure filled with danger, surprises, dinosaurs, and asides. This is book one in the series of books that make up his autobiography, written under a pen name as fiction to trick the librarians.

The door shuts behind them and will not open. Christina doesn't believe in ghost and helps the boys see that Big Eddy and his friends are the ones banging on the doors outside to scare them and steal their candy. They scare off the bullies, but there is still the real ghost.

This is book 4 in the series, (3 was not in the library.) In this book it is summer and Danny and Wendell find a half-drown bat at the city pool. So they take a bus (well actually a couple of buses in a few hour trip) to see Danny's cousin Steve in Mexico. Steve studies a cave full of bats in the jungles of Mexico. He is also trying the save the cave from developers. When Steve shows off the cave to the boys, Danny gets kidnapped by a giant bat, which they call Camazotz after a giant bat god that people in the area use to worship. There are also ones on pop culture, crazy things that you might have not heard in the news, photo shop picture on a theme, etc. This book is about the things that you were taught that were wrong, skipped all the fun parts, or just got glossed over in order the get the the things you needed for standardized tests. Much to all of the information has already been published in the website, but it was arranged like a text book and had humorous pictures labeled as figure (blank) with the sentence explaining it just like a text book.

Besides the author and the doctor that co-wrote small sections of the book, (he had a section at the end of each chapter and some inside the chapters) there was also information from other doctors, scientists, dietitians and people that decided to take their health into there own hands by studying the science and trying changes out on themselves. Like many books dealing with topics that people had thought the science was settled on, before much of any science was done there are slightly different thoughts on what we should due given what we know now. But overall there is a great overlap in what things are important, with people having slight differences in what they would do in some situations. It is written so that someone without a lot of scientific knowledge could read and understand it, but it does include the data from studies and where to get more info, so that if you want to look at the raw numbers you can. It also includes information on other test you can get that seam to be better indicators of having a increased risk of a cardiac event and a number of practice test results at the end, so you can look at cholesterol numbers yourself and take the info that you have learned to see if the "person" had health, unhealthy or somewhere in-between numbers.
Like many books that question the status quo on health and nutrition this one believes that the modern diet is a main cause of many of the modern health problems, and that most to all (again there were some slight disagreements between the experts on somethings) people can fix their cholesterol issues by changes in diet and lifestyle (i.e. stop smoking, sleep enough, do light exercising, reduce stress, the usual.)

It also includes charts for how to quickly and easily make many versions of basic things, i.e. what combination of acid, oil and flavors to use to make all sorts of vinaigrettes. There are also pages that take the same 3-5 items and make 3 or 4 different type of meals out of them. Sadly the dessert section includes no bread puddings.
